Senate Ignores Cruz & American People – Passes Bill to Fund Obamacare

Democrats and Republicans joined hands and sang kum ba yah, ignoring the American people and the information disseminated by Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) and his colleagues on Tuesday and Wednesday. Twenty-five Republicans joined Democrats in a 79-19 vote to amend the House Bill on spending and fund Obamacare.

The Washington Times reports:

Once that hurdle was cleared, the rest of the votes were preordained. The Senate waived budget rules, voted to strip out the Obamacare defunding on a 54-44 party line vote, and passed the bill.

The bill now heads back to the House, where Republicans are struggling to figure out a path forward, trapped between a right wing which insists on full defunding and Senate Democrats, who just proved that stance cannot succeed.

“This is like the movie ‘High Noon. The two sides are walking down the street. I just hope that like the movie ‘High Noon,’ I hope the good guys win,” said Sen. Tom Harkin (D-IA).

Just remember, it was men like Harkin and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) who referred to Cruz and his allies (including the American people) as anarchists, hoping to destroy government altogether, which is a flat out lie.

Harkin also said that the issue is “every bit as dangerous” as the lead-up to the Civil War. On that, he may be correct. There are many Americans who have had their fill of the federal government forcing things down their throats it was never designed to have authority to do.

Senator Jeff Sessions (R-AL), who joined Cruz to block the spending bill, asked “Do we just give up

I don’t think we give up Senator Sessions. I think we keep exposing the Republicans who continue to show themselves siding with Democrats on issues like this for political gain, rather than stand on their principles.

These senators feared they would get blamed for the government being shutdown (which wouldn’t be such a bad thing). They will be blamed anyway for something. However, I’ve also pointed out that historically it has worked in their favor as they gained seats the last time they stood their ground and shutdown the government.

Just remember to keep your eyes on the House. We must expose those in the House who are engaged in this same political posturing. The Republican leadership there is going to cave. They have already been in the process of undermining Cruz and other Republican senators in the US Senate.

I think RedState Insider was correct when he foretold that this is all political theater, and in the end John Boehner and Mitch McConnell will fund Obamacare. He wrote:

Don’t be fooled by this political theater going on in Washington, DC. The fix is in and both sides are trying to fund ObamaCare while saving face.

The whole of House Republican Leadership thinks you are stupid. They have passed a bill that they know will be changed by Harry Reid before it goes back to the House in a few days. The smoking gun will happen when Boehner allows a Senate passed government funding measure to come up in the House minus the provision defunding ObamaCare. You wait and see.

Also, know that Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell is in on this too. He is going to stand with Senators Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and Mike Lee (R-Utah) to save his Senate seat, but he knows that he has the power to stop this scheme.

Here is how both Republican and Democrats in leadership are trying to fool you. The House passed a Continuing Resolution, a measure to fund the government for two and one half months, with two things attached. A measure to defund ObamaCare and another to reorder the debt payment priorities of the United States government to allow the federal government to operate if the debt limit forbids anymore federal borrowing. These amendments were grouped in a way making it very easy for the Senate to delete this provision. And that was by design.

After the House passed the resolution, they had a big fake rally to make believe they were happy that they were funding the government while defunding ObamaCare. Yet Republicans in the House think we are stupid. Representatives like Peter King (R-NY) and Tom Cole (R-Oklahoma) either went on TV or yelled at Tea Party minded constituents to tell them why the House could not pass a budget bill that defunds ObamaCare, yet they did it. These moderates only supported the House effort because they knew it was without teeth and an effort to make believe they are fighting ObamaCare.

The only reason why squishes in the House agreed to send a defund ObamaCare measure to the Senate is because they know the fix is in and the defunding of ObamaCare will never happen. Now I am not saying that these squishy members don’t want to repeal ObamaCare — they do — they are merely unwilling to put up any sort of a fight to repeal it.

The bottom line is that Speaker of the House John Boehner, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor and House Whip Kevin McCarthy all know that the only way they could convince the House to pass a CR that defunds ObamaCare is if this was merely a messaging bill that would be changed by the Senate.

We now have circumstantial evidence that the House Republican Leadership conspired with Senate Democratic Leadership to set up the theater to save ObamaCare while preserving House Republicans reputation for fighting ObamaCare. Why else would the media be openly talking about the complicated Senate procedure that is expected to be used to railroad this bill through the Senate?

I think the writer is spot on in his assessment, and we are about to see just how this plays out. Remember to keep in mind Senators up for re-election and replace them with those who will honor their oaths and seek the best interest of the American people when looking to fund ridiculous laws such as Obamacare.

Here is the list of those Republican senators who stood against the bill:

Mike Crapo (ID), Ted Cruz (TX), Mike Enzi (WY), Deb Fischer (NE), Charles E. Grassley (IA), Dean Heller (NV), James M. Inhofe (OK), Mike Lee (UT), Jerry Moran (KS), Rand Paul (KY), Rob Portman (OH), James E. Risch (ID), Pat Roberts (KS), Marco Rubio (FS), Tim Scott (SC), Jeff Sessions (AL), Richard C. Shelby (AL), Patrick J. Toomey (PA) and David Vitter (LA).

Here are the Republican turncoats:

Alexander (TN), Ayotte (NH), Barrasso (WY), Blunt (MO), Boozman (AR), Burr (NC, Chambliss (GA), Chiesa (NJ), Coats (IA), Coburn (OK), Cochran (MS), Collins (ME), Corker (TN), Cornyn (TX), Graham (SC), Hoeven (ND), Isakson (GA), Johanns (NE), Johnson (WI), Kirk (IL), McCain (AZ), McConnell (KY), Murkowski (AK), Thune (SD), Wicker (MS)

Be sure to contact your senator and thank them or reprimand them, depending on their vote. Then make sure you contact your representative and let them know your thoughts on the bill that is being returned to the House of Representatives.
